Raised in the coastal town of Beaufort, SC, Josh began developing an interest in photography when he discovered the old cameras his father had brought back from Vietnam, "There was a whole set of camera equipment and darkroom materials that had been boxed up for years. It was everything I needed to create pictures. All that was left for me to do was to figure out how make it all work." Traveling to Europe, Australia and throughout America served to foster Josh's interest in capturing his experiences on film.

Josh studied photojournalism at the University of Missouri before graduating and joining the staff of Southern Living. He worked there as a photographer for six years before leaving to start a freelance career in 1998.

Describing his work, Josh refers to the way he creates his refined, subtle images. "I'm trying to create order out of confusion and distraction. I strip away the elements that take away from emotional and editorial impact of the subject and distill it to leave only what is relevant. "

Josh has extensive experience with photographing architecture, food, people and travel. His unique set of specialties makes him a favorite of lifestyle magazines as well as advertising and public relations firms.

He has two sons, Jefferson and Warren, and splits his time between New York City and the South Carolina Lowcountry
